How Customers Experience Shapes Your Brand

How Customers Experience Shapes Your Brand: In this classroom blog, Miss Digital Media collaborates with Katie Spreadbury, from Orange Sheep Research.

Katie provides a different perspective on how we can give our Brand a Boost by considering the customer’s experience of our brand and identifying how we can improve our brand by asking our customers questions.

Katie Spreadbury - Orange Sheep Research
How customers experience shapes your brand

You do not own the way your brand is perceived

Sure you can work out your brand values, sort your logo, colour palette and design, choose your brand voice, and so on. But the fact remains, your audience – your customers/clients and the people you are targeting to be customers/clients in future – are the only ones who truly know your brand.

Because their truth – the way they perceive your brand – is the only one that matters.

Every interaction you have with your customers shapes their view of your brand. From the post you put on social media, to your website, to the experiences they have of dealing with you directly (purchasing or working with you) to the way they see you interacting with others online – it all shapes their perception of you and therefore your brand image.

Is the image you are putting out there the same as the one you think you are putting out?

For example, one of your brand values might be “helpful”. But if they are seeing a lot of comments and questions on your social media page going unanswered, this will not be something they particularly associate with you.

The only way to really know what they think of you is to ask them.

Asking questions such as what words they would associate with your brand, how your brand makes them feel, whether they agree your brand is aimed at them. What do they really think of you? Do they associate the values you are trying to portray with you?

Only by having these conversations can we know what people are really thinking about us. For more advice on how to have these conversations with your audience check out Katie’s blog on the issue ‘What do your ideal customers value more than anything?

Katie’s Biog:

Katie Spreadbury founded OrangeSheep Research to help small businesses increase sales by building a band of loyal customers who buy more, more often, and who will shout about them to anyone who will listen. Katie believes that when a business knows what their customers really think they have the foundations to build a business their customers love, and she helps them get there through high-quality customer research. To learn more about how to find out what your customers really think to join Katie in her free Facebook group, the aptly named “What your customers REALLY think”.

Miss Digital Media would like to thank Katie for sharing her useful tips and advice which will help to Boost Your Brand.

Mindset and Branding

Mindset and Branding. In this classroom blog, Miss Digital Media interviews Faye, from Faye Cox Coaching on the topics of Mindset and Branding.

Faye Cox Coaching - Miss Digital Media Classroom Blog

Faye Cox, Mindset & Confidence Coach

In the process of starting and developing a business our personal mindset plays a big part in the progress we make. It also impacts our communication, marketing, and branding. Although subtle, we may unintentionally project the wrong message about ourselves and our business.

I interviewed Mindset Coach, Faye Cox about how our mindset affects our business development and branding.

What can we do to identify our limiting thoughts and reframe them?

Limiting thoughts tend to come from our childhood. We take on our family beliefs from an early age, but as adults and business owners most of these beliefs no longer serve us.

We can identify them when thoughts arise that we feel might be holding us back e.g. Money doesn’t grow on trees etc. This is typical of someone who has limiting beliefs around how much money they deserve to make in their business.

WE can re-frame them by finding more positive statements to better support us, such as I AM open to receiving money into my life and business. Repeat this over and over each and every day until it becomes the norm.

This will re-wire your mind into thinking positively around money rather than negatively. The brain loves repetition and that’s how you developed the limiting belief in the first place!

What can we do to combat imposter syndrome?

All too often, we spend far too much time comparing ourselves to others. This is not only a complete waste of our time, but it also holds us back from creating the success we truly deserve.

To combat Imposter Syndrome I get my clients to first write out their professional profile to include everything they do, how they do it, what makes them different and the style in which they deliver their services.

I ask them to put it somewhere that they can see it every day. This helps them remind themselves that they are good enough, they are experienced enough and they are qualified enough.

This is a great daily confidence boost too! I then get clients to list everything they’ve achieved in their life & business so far and again, put it somewhere they can see it.

Lastly, I get them to catch the language that they use when talking about themselves. We re-frame their self-talk from the negative to the positive. What you tell yourself matters and you need to be kinder to yourself.

Everyone is unique and the more you realise your own strengths, the less you feel the need to compare to others.

How do you think our mindset affects, our business development and branding?

If you don’t do the work on your mindset then the business is going to be an uphill struggle, no matter how much skill and business knowledge you have. A mindset for success is fundamental to your business.

Your mindset will also affect your branding hugely. You need to know who you really are so that you can create the right branding that fits who you are and what you’re about as a business owner.

This shines through then to your potential clients who will be attracted to you and your business as a result.

How can we clarify our own mission and purpose in our businesses?

In order to clarify your mission and purpose, you first need to find out who you really are! This is number one in everything when looking at your business.

You have to be in alignment with your values, mission, and vision. Look at your strengths and work out exactly what it is that you want to put out into the world.

What positive actions would you recommend to business owners to improve their mindset and increase the visibility of their brand?

Firstly, take a step back and work out your personal values, the ones that you hold true today and let go of the ones that have been given to you, that no longer serve you as a person or business owner.

Let go of any old habits that are holding you back and create more powerful ones. Welcome your failures and see them as learning so you can grow. Create a rock-solid routine and get out of your own way.

In terms of visibility, if you’re not visible your clients can’t find you and you’re working your butt off every day. Staying small isn’t going to work for you here.

Hiding in the shadows is no good for anyone and copying someone else and thinking you ‘Should’ be doing everything that others are doing isn’t going to help either.

Allowing yourself to be 100% you, is by far the easiest and best way to attract clients into your business. Trust your own intuition!

How can you help business owners, and how can they contact you for help?

Most people come to me because they want to make a positive change in their life. They want to feel more motivated, they want to escape their bad habits and they want to be more confident within themselves.

My coaching style is no-nonsense, straight-talking, and gets to the core issue. I believe that in order to gain clarity and move forward you need to go deeper and release the fears and limiting beliefs that are holding you back.

I work with a range of female business owners world-wide. Using my Coaching, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy knowledge, and NLP skills and experience.

I support these women to gain the necessary clarity to help them achieve what they truly want in their life and business.

I coach both individuals and groups who want to create a successful life and business without having to sacrifice their family and friends, and those looking for more time and self-belief.

You can find me hanging out in my FB group ‘The Positivity Hub’ or you can contact me at faye@fayecoxcoaching.co.uk. I also have a FREE download which you can grab here!

Brands Books and Bios

Brands, Books, and Bios. Miss Digital Media interviews The Simple Mum, Blogger, and Award-winning Author Cheryl Lee-White, who shares her experience and tips on creating, publishing, and promoting Brands, Books and Bios.

Cheryl Lee-White is a mother to 3 girls and lives with them and her partner in Somerset, UK. She is an award-winning children’s author and writes a blog for parents called The Simple Mum. She uses her passion for writing and photography to create a business utilising these.

When and why did you start your business?
I started my blog up in 2016 which at first was just a hobby. I had a passion for writing and a blog seemed like the best outlet to share my passion. I have 3 daughters and we love to be active and enjoy the great outdoors so I thought I could write a blog about parenting sharing our experience. I named my blog The Simple Mum as my focus is on keeping parenting simple. Blogging was a stepping stone for me to branch out into other areas.

What products and services does The Simple Mum offer?
Firstly I have my website that offers readers a wealth of free information on all things parenting. I run my blog like a magazine adding posts on different categories every month to ensure there is a wide diversity of content.

I have written and published 2 children’s rhyming books, ‘Pete The Cheeky Parakeet‘ and the award-winning ‘The Book of Silly Rhymes‘. I offer local author visits where I will go into schools and discuss how to become a writer and read my story to the children.

I offer freelance writing services where I write content for other businesses and I also sell my photography on stock websites and occasionally sell prints via my social media pages.

What inspires you to write and how do you develop your ideas?
A love for writing is what drives me to keep constantly creating and trying new types of writing. My inspiration definitely comes from my children. Being a mother helps me to create posts for my blog that can help other parents. My children are also what inspired me to start writing children’s books.

How did you find the process of writing, designing, and publishing your first book?
Finishing writing a story is just the beginning of the journey and the easy part the publishing is the hard part. Finding a publisher in the first place isn’t easy. You can’t submit stories directly to traditional publishers so you have to use literary agents that can take anything up to 4 months to get back to you. I was lucky that I stumbled across an interview with a new children’s book publisher called Blue Falcon Publishing who was accepting direct submissions. They are in between traditional and self-publishing as I do pay a small fee for their services but they handle all the publishing, editing, blurb write up, cover design, and help with marketing.

Would you ever self publish a book?
Yes, I would consider using self-publishing services I did almost use Amazon publishing before I found my publisher. I am however a perfectionist and don’t have the skills to create a good looking book so even if I self-published I would always outsource a professional to edit and design the book for me and of course an illustrator.

What platforms, tools, processes, and techniques do you use to promote your blog and sell your books, products, and services?
My favourite platform for promoting is Facebook. This generates me the most leads for my blog and books and is also the platform I am most familiar with. Instagram is another favourite platform of mine and is where I sometimes make sales on my photography as it is a very image-based platform.

Twitter although I don’t get much traffic or interaction from there it is a great place to find opportunities and connect with other bloggers.

What tips can you share about how you built your personal brand and Bio?
Be authentic and create a brand that resonates with you. My brand for The Simple Mum is very personal to me even down to my logo which consists of my family and the beach 2 of my favourite things.

What tips could you share with other aspiring writers, authors, and business mums about blogging and building an audience?
My biggest tip to share with other aspiring writers is to never give up, keep constantly writing, and challenging yourself. The best way to build an audience is to write and share as much of your work as you can. Starting up your own blog is one way to share your work and gradually grow an audience. Also, guest blogging for other websites will help build an audience and get you noticed. I recently wrote a poem for Captain Tom Moore that I shared on my social media, from that it was then shared on a website for lockdown poetry and from there I was contacted to ask if I wanted to be a judge for a poetry competition. Keep writing and sharing as you never know where it will lead you.

What projects do you have planned for the future?
During Lockdown I have written a new children’s rhyming story so I am going through the process of getting it published and hopefully it should be ready later this year. I am also looking into setting up a family photography service to add more to the photography side of my business.

You can find The Simple Mum on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/thesimplemum/ and check out her blog at http://www.thesimplemum.com/

Do you need help with your online marketing?

Do you need help with your online marketing? Are you stressed out with updating your website, writing blogs, and creating social media content?

Are you a Coach consultant or Creative? Which online marketing tools cause you the biggest headache? You might love some while others can become time-sucking vampires causing you major stress!

Tools vs Time
There are so many different social media platforms, tools, software and apps available these days, as business owners it can become overwhelming to manage to create online marketing content and to develop all the different skills you need.

Choosing where your time is best spent is another tricky aspect as a business owner, what is right for one business may not be the same for another – but also everyone one is different and has different strengths and different ways of learning.

Miss Digital Media uses a variety of software for graphic design online marketing, mainly Adobe Photoshop InDesign and Illustrator which are industry-standard software for graphic designers. Plus Canva and Adobe Spark which are free software platforms with additional paid features. These are fantastic tools for non-designers that provide easy to use platforms and editable templates. I use a mixture of theses software platforms depending on what content is being created and who for. I use WordPress to manage my own and my client’s websites, Loomly to schedule social media content, and Mailchimp for email marketing.

Outsourcing vs DIY Marketing
There are always opportunities for business owners to develop their skills in creating content for their branding, social media, websites, and email marketing. However, for some, it is better to outsource content creation and design to professionals who are more experienced, enabling the business owner to keep doing what they do best, and serving their customers.

However, many small businesses simply do not have the budget to outsource content creation and need to take control of their online marketing. In this case, there are many free and low-cost training courses and workshops available, and plentiful opportunities for free or low-cost platforms, apps, and software to use.

Online Marketing Support and Training
If you need some help to develop your online marketing, Miss Digital Media can give your branding a boost in many ways, with monthly online marketing support or 1-2-1 training in any particular area you need. There is certainly no need for you to struggle alone, I can guide you through the process and teach you the skills you need to put you in the driving seat – I’m here to help!

Please get in touch if you would like to book a FREE Branding Consultation, a 1-2-1 training session or to discuss monthly online marketing support for your business, I’m here to help!
