How Customers Experience Shapes Your Brand

How Customers Experience Shapes Your Brand: In this classroom blog, Miss Digital Media collaborates with Katie Spreadbury, from Orange Sheep Research.

Katie provides a different perspective on how we can give our Brand a Boost by considering the customer’s experience of our brand and identifying how we can improve our brand by asking our customers questions.

Katie Spreadbury - Orange Sheep Research
How customers experience shapes your brand

You do not own the way your brand is perceived

Sure you can work out your brand values, sort your logo, colour palette and design, choose your brand voice, and so on. But the fact remains, your audience – your customers/clients and the people you are targeting to be customers/clients in future – are the only ones who truly know your brand.

Because their truth – the way they perceive your brand – is the only one that matters.

Every interaction you have with your customers shapes their view of your brand. From the post you put on social media, to your website, to the experiences they have of dealing with you directly (purchasing or working with you) to the way they see you interacting with others online – it all shapes their perception of you and therefore your brand image.

Is the image you are putting out there the same as the one you think you are putting out?

For example, one of your brand values might be “helpful”. But if they are seeing a lot of comments and questions on your social media page going unanswered, this will not be something they particularly associate with you.

The only way to really know what they think of you is to ask them.

Asking questions such as what words they would associate with your brand, how your brand makes them feel, whether they agree your brand is aimed at them. What do they really think of you? Do they associate the values you are trying to portray with you?

Only by having these conversations can we know what people are really thinking about us. For more advice on how to have these conversations with your audience check out Katie’s blog on the issue ‘What do your ideal customers value more than anything?

Katie’s Biog:

Katie Spreadbury founded OrangeSheep Research to help small businesses increase sales by building a band of loyal customers who buy more, more often, and who will shout about them to anyone who will listen. Katie believes that when a business knows what their customers really think they have the foundations to build a business their customers love, and she helps them get there through high-quality customer research. To learn more about how to find out what your customers really think to join Katie in her free Facebook group, the aptly named “What your customers REALLY think”.

Miss Digital Media would like to thank Katie for sharing her useful tips and advice which will help to Boost Your Brand.

Personal Branding, Photography, and Visibility

Personal Branding, Photography, and Visibility: In this classroom blog, Miss Digital Media collaborates with Ginny Marsh, from Gorgeous You Photography.

Personal Branding and VIsibility

Throughout the process of designing and developing a personal brand, we have to think about so many different factors. A brand is not just about the design of a company logo, or the colours used in marketing, it is so much more than that!

Branding encompasses our personal mission, values, and ethos, our business vision, our unique selling points, our tone of voice, style of writing, and communication. We’ll need to create brand words, elevator pitches, and memorable straplines or tag lines for our marketing and promotions.

We need to be clear about the products and services we offer and who our target audience is. All of these things need to be represented in a visual way which is why the brand design is so important.

Choosing the right images and colours and creating a layout and design that is fit for purpose ensures our products and services appeal to our ideal customers.

As a branding designer myself I feel it is really important to explain that building a brand takes time, it doesn’t happen overnight. It is a gradual and ongoing process, which requires the business owner to invest time and finances to develop and grow their brand.

Business owners need to build the like, know, trust factor with their customers, and to demonstrate their credibility through their bio’s, cv, expertise, and testimonials.

However, it is equally as important how we present ourselves. These days it’s the norm to share photos and videos of ourselves on social media to promote our personal brands, so how we look, how we dress, and how we speak can really make all the difference to getting our potential customers to like, know and trust us.

Some of these things may put some people off even starting a business. Speaking from experience I know that my own lack of confidence has prevented me from achieving in my business, and I know that there are many business owners who feel the same about their own personal brand, which has stopped them from being visible to their customers.

Personal Branding and Visibility

I asked Ginny Marsh, Personal Branding Photographer, and Body Confidence Coach at Gorgeous You Photography, some questions about how we can improve our personal branding and visibility.

What is Personal Branding Photography and why do we need it?

We all need to start with a good headshot… But personal branding photography is so much more than that! It’s a collection of photos that represent the essence of your brand.

I work with my clients to create images that tell a story about who you are, what you do, your process, and how you deliver your product or service. I bring out your personality, show how it feels to work with you, and why you’re different from your competitors.

It’s so important to have good Personal Branding photographs to make you stand out and show you as the expert at what you do.

Personal Branding and Visibility

What tips can you give on creating great personal brand photos?

When planning each shoot, I always ask my clients to get clear about a few branding key essentials:

  • What is it that you do?
  • Where do you work and/or meet clients (and does that fit in with your brand)?
  • What are you actually selling (product/service) and also, what FEELING or RESULT are you selling?
  • How do you want to be portrayed and come across to your ideal clients?
  • Who are your ideal clients and what are they interested in?
  • What do you want your branding images to do for you and what do you want to achieve?
  • What’s your process or client journey? How could you show what it’s like to purchase from you?
  • What are your brand values and/or company ethos?
  • Who are you and what’s your personality and style?
  • What are your brand colours?

What can we do to make our brand visually unique?

I absolutely love to create mood boards on Pinterest! It’s a great place of inspiration and visual references for how you want your brand and images to look, and I love to help my clients to get creative making mood boards.

When planning a personal branding shoot, you need to think about what would really make you stand out and tell your story.

Think about your branding colours, and how you can keep those throughout all your branding photography.

Think about props, locations, outfits, and styling that says something unique about who you are, your values, and how you work. You don’t want to look like everyone else. And ultimately, think about where you’ll be using the images (online and in print).

How can we improve our camera confidence?

I have one main rule for getting more camera confident… and that’s PRACTICE!!! The more you do something, the easier it gets. And as with most people, it’s probably completely out of your comfort zone because you aren’t used to having your photo taken.

So practice taking lots of selfies, or get your friends to take photos (unless they’re really bad and make it worse). A good photographer will put you at ease and make it enjoyable.

However, I have a few other tips to get you more instantly confident in the short term…

  • Listen to your favourite music and dance to it!
  • Wear your favourite perfume
  • Wear an outfit that makes you look and feel really good
  • Tell yourself positive things, such as “I can do this, and I’ll be great at it!”
  • Make sure you’ve got good posture (sit/stand up straight and relax your shoulders down), even do a good power pose like you’re Wonder Woman!

What tips can you share on creating great selfies and product shots? Or if offering services how can we show that in our pictures?

That would take way more than a blog to answer! I can show you tutorials on all this and more in my private Facebook group called “Gorgeous You – The confidence to be visible”, In the group I share:

  • fun challenges to get you more camera confident
  • personal branding tips
  • self-love and confidence tips
  • photography tips
  • advice from other fabulous experts
  • accountability for you to be more visible!

The Facebook group is to support women to improve their self-esteem, camera confidence, and visibility in their business.

Ginny’s group called Gorgeous You – The Confidence to be Visible, has been very helpful indeed, it has helped me to learn new skills, and improve my camera confidence, and I have been posting more selfies doing more video than I ever thought possible, better still I have helped to boost my own brand and visibility.

Mindset and Branding

Mindset and Branding. In this classroom blog, Miss Digital Media interviews Faye, from Faye Cox Coaching on the topics of Mindset and Branding.

Faye Cox Coaching - Miss Digital Media Classroom Blog
Faye Cox Coaching - Miss Digital Media Classroom Blog

Faye Cox, Mindset & Confidence Coach

In the process of starting and developing a business our personal mindset plays a big part in the progress we make. It also impacts our communication, marketing, and branding. Although subtle, we may unintentionally project the wrong message about ourselves and our business.

I interviewed Mindset Coach, Faye Cox about how our mindset affects our business development and branding.

What can we do to identify our limiting thoughts and reframe them?

Limiting thoughts tend to come from our childhood. We take on our family beliefs from an early age, but as adults and business owners most of these beliefs no longer serve us.

We can identify them when thoughts arise that we feel might be holding us back e.g. Money doesn’t grow on trees etc. This is typical of someone who has limiting beliefs around how much money they deserve to make in their business.

WE can re-frame them by finding more positive statements to better support us, such as I AM open to receiving money into my life and business. Repeat this over and over each and every day until it becomes the norm.

This will re-wire your mind into thinking positively around money rather than negatively. The brain loves repetition and that’s how you developed the limiting belief in the first place!

What can we do to combat imposter syndrome?

All too often, we spend far too much time comparing ourselves to others. This is not only a complete waste of our time, but it also holds us back from creating the success we truly deserve.

To combat Imposter Syndrome I get my clients to first write out their professional profile to include everything they do, how they do it, what makes them different and the style in which they deliver their services.

I ask them to put it somewhere that they can see it every day. This helps them remind themselves that they are good enough, they are experienced enough and they are qualified enough.

This is a great daily confidence boost too! I then get clients to list everything they’ve achieved in their life & business so far and again, put it somewhere they can see it.

Lastly, I get them to catch the language that they use when talking about themselves. We re-frame their self-talk from the negative to the positive. What you tell yourself matters and you need to be kinder to yourself.

Everyone is unique and the more you realise your own strengths, the less you feel the need to compare to others.

How do you think our mindset affects, our business development and branding?

If you don’t do the work on your mindset then the business is going to be an uphill struggle, no matter how much skill and business knowledge you have. A mindset for success is fundamental to your business.

Your mindset will also affect your branding hugely. You need to know who you really are so that you can create the right branding that fits who you are and what you’re about as a business owner.

This shines through then to your potential clients who will be attracted to you and your business as a result.

How can we clarify our own mission and purpose in our businesses?

In order to clarify your mission and purpose, you first need to find out who you really are! This is number one in everything when looking at your business.

You have to be in alignment with your values, mission, and vision. Look at your strengths and work out exactly what it is that you want to put out into the world.

What positive actions would you recommend to business owners to improve their mindset and increase the visibility of their brand?

Firstly, take a step back and work out your personal values, the ones that you hold true today and let go of the ones that have been given to you, that no longer serve you as a person or business owner.

Let go of any old habits that are holding you back and create more powerful ones. Welcome your failures and see them as learning so you can grow. Create a rock-solid routine and get out of your own way.

In terms of visibility, if you’re not visible your clients can’t find you and you’re working your butt off every day. Staying small isn’t going to work for you here.

Hiding in the shadows is no good for anyone and copying someone else and thinking you ‘Should’ be doing everything that others are doing isn’t going to help either.

Allowing yourself to be 100% you, is by far the easiest and best way to attract clients into your business. Trust your own intuition!

How can you help business owners, and how can they contact you for help?

Most people come to me because they want to make a positive change in their life. They want to feel more motivated, they want to escape their bad habits and they want to be more confident within themselves.

My coaching style is no-nonsense, straight-talking, and gets to the core issue. I believe that in order to gain clarity and move forward you need to go deeper and release the fears and limiting beliefs that are holding you back.

I work with a range of female business owners world-wide. Using my Coaching, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy knowledge, and NLP skills and experience.

I support these women to gain the necessary clarity to help them achieve what they truly want in their life and business.

I coach both individuals and groups who want to create a successful life and business without having to sacrifice their family and friends, and those looking for more time and self-belief.

You can find me hanging out in my FB group ‘The Positivity Hub’ or you can contact me at faye@fayecoxcoaching.co.uk. I also have a FREE download which you can grab here!

Miss Digital Media would like to thank Faye for sharing her tips and advice on mindset, branding, and visibility.

What does your logo say about you?

What does your logo say about you? Does it give the right impression of your business? Does it tell people what you do? Does it represent your brand well?

As a business owner, there are many aspects to consider in creating your logo and brand identity, such as budget, functionality, and creating the right look and feel for your business.

Investing in your Logo design
When selecting a designer to work with it is very important to choose the right person for the job, which can be quite confusing when there are so many designers and various price options available.

Whether your business is a start-up or an established business, you need to ensure that any investment provides brand assets that are fit for purpose and bring a good return on investment.

As I designer I am frustrated by seeing other ‘designers’ offering logo design or any design services for that matter at extremely low cost. I think this de-values, the quality, and integrity of design.

Yes, there are many people on websites like fiver and people per hour who will offer you the world for a fiver. I would hedge my bets that it’ll cost you more than a fiver to fix the problems and any loss of time in using their services – this would be such a bad investment.

Recently I’ve seen many low budget logo design services being advertised for a little as £5-£20. Some show examples that can’t really be called logos in my opinion. Others may look pretty but don’t really stand up as proper logo designs that are scalable, legible, or unique.

What is worse is that often these services are in some cases not using the correct software tools or following the most basic of design principles and as a result, they are not providing their clients with properly designed logos.

Logo’s should be created in a vector format, and customers should be supplied with a .ai file so that the logo design can be used for a variety of purposes. But then again for £5! Could anyone really expect to get a decent, unique professional logo design supplied in the correct formats? I think not!

Below I’ve listed 3 pricing categories for logo design in the current market and what you can expect to get for those prices.

Logo Design Budget
Low Budget £5-20: Generic, basic, template logo designs, created on Canva, or with incorrect tools or software. Whilst they might look ok and sufficiently do the job on your social media, will these stand up to being used in print media? Is the work provided fit for purpose? Does it make your business look professional or amateurish? I think it makes it look like you don’t value your own business more than £20.

Mid Range £100-£350: I feel this is a more realistic ballpark figure and a fairer price for creating a professional logo design. Depending on your requirements and design brief, you should expect to receive initial design concepts, 1 lot of variations based on your feedback, and the final logo design, also possibly a final logo supplied in different colorways. I would ensure that you receive a variety of different formats and sizes for use in print and social media. You should check with your designer how their process works and what their price includes.

High-Cost £1000-£15,000 plus: This price range would be for much larger organisations or corporate businesses. This would be for a very high-end logo and branding design for global, international audiences, and high ticket business. Where a client wants to create a complete brand identity and develop company brand guidelines to follow. Such as specifying colour palettes, fonts, sizing, spacing, image elements, language and tone of copywriting, and much more.

Miss Digital Media Logo Design
I am offering logo design from just £249. Providing clients with a bespoke design supplied in a variety of formats to use in print and social media.

The process is simple, I discuss the client’s brand and design brief, and create some draft concepts, from which a final logo is developed and supplied in a variety of formats.

If you would like to discuss this service in more detail please get in touch! I’m always happy to discuss these things – there is never any obligation to purchase. Take a look at the Portfolio page to see examples of my work.

Please get in touch if you would like to discuss your logo design – I’m here to help!

Do you need help with your online marketing?

Do you need help with your online marketing? Are you stressed out with updating your website, writing blogs, and creating social media content?

Are you a Coach consultant or Creative? Which online marketing tools cause you the biggest headache? You might love some while others can become time-sucking vampires causing you major stress!

Tools vs Time
There are so many different social media platforms, tools, software and apps available these days, as business owners it can become overwhelming to manage to create online marketing content and to develop all the different skills you need.

Choosing where your time is best spent is another tricky aspect as a business owner, what is right for one business may not be the same for another – but also everyone one is different and has different strengths and different ways of learning.

Miss Digital Media uses a variety of software for graphic design online marketing, mainly Adobe Photoshop InDesign and Illustrator which are industry-standard software for graphic designers. Plus Canva and Adobe Spark which are free software platforms with additional paid features. These are fantastic tools for non-designers that provide easy to use platforms and editable templates. I use a mixture of theses software platforms depending on what content is being created and who for. I use WordPress to manage my own and my client’s websites, Loomly to schedule social media content, and Mailchimp for email marketing.

Outsourcing vs DIY Marketing
There are always opportunities for business owners to develop their skills in creating content for their branding, social media, websites, and email marketing. However, for some, it is better to outsource content creation and design to professionals who are more experienced, enabling the business owner to keep doing what they do best, and serving their customers.

However, many small businesses simply do not have the budget to outsource content creation and need to take control of their online marketing. In this case, there are many free and low-cost training courses and workshops available, and plentiful opportunities for free or low-cost platforms, apps, and software to use.

Online Marketing Support and Training
If you need some help to develop your online marketing, Miss Digital Media can give your branding a boost in many ways, with monthly online marketing support or 1-2-1 training in any particular area you need. There is certainly no need for you to struggle alone, I can guide you through the process and teach you the skills you need to put you in the driving seat – I’m here to help!

Please get in touch if you would like to book a FREE Branding Consultation, a 1-2-1 training session or to discuss monthly online marketing support for your business, I’m here to help!
